What is CB certification? What you need to pay attention to when applying for CB in the lighting industry?

The standards used for outdoor street lights are first IEC 60598-2-3:2002/AMD1:2011; IEC60598-1:2020. Its main auxiliary standards are IEC TR62778; IEC62262; IEC/TR 62696; IEC62471. Many customers inquire about engineering street lights. We will be given relevant standards when issuing certifications. Generally speaking, as long as CB certification can be issued, these standards can be passed.

Let’s break down the CB certification system and explain it

(1) CB certification is a certificate issued after testing.

(2) IEC (Internation Electrotechnical Commission) is a testing standard

(3) IECEE (IEC SYSTEM OF CONFORMITY ASSESSMENT SCHEMES FOR ELECTROTECHNICAL EQUIPMENT AND COMPONENTS) is the issuing organization.

(4) NCBS (National Certification Bodies) is the issuing agency

(5) CBTLS (CB TESTING LABORIES) is a testing laboratory, which has three branches: CTFS (Customer Testing Facilities), SPTLS (Specialized Testing Laboratories, LTRS (Local Technical Representatives))

They constitute the entire CB certification system.

cb certification

Here's what it does:

(1) National access: Apply for a compulsory certificate or product certificate for the target market based on CB

(2) Value-added: Apply for a value-added certification mark based on CB

(3) Component recognition: a basic requirement for components in complete machine certification.

Among them, the compulsory admission certificates include: (1) CE; (2) SASO; (3) CCC; (4) PSE; (5) RCM, etc. Voluntary admission certificates include: (1)ENEC; (3)Tuv mark; (3)GS; (4)ENEC+

Below Ailite will explain in detail what you need to pay attention to when applying for CB in the lighting industry.

The first is the CB certification of LED bulbs.

The standard we want to use is first IEC62560:2011/AMD1:2015. Its main auxiliary standards are: IEC TR 62778; IEC61347-1; IEC60061-1; IEC60061-3. These standards will be in the bidding, CB appears in the entity certificate.

Generally, please note the following when applying:

(1) The power of the LED bulb should not exceed 60W. This is very important. Two sets of standards apply to the power of the bulb below 60W and above 60W.

(2) The weight and bending moment of the heterosexual foam body exceed the standard. (This point is mainly aimed at some conventional bulbs other than A bulb and T bulb. They tend to be decorative bulbs. The E24 lamp head stipulates that the total load-bearing cannot exceed 1KG)

(3) The lamp holder must be made in accordance with international standards, including the size, thread depth, and number of turns.

(4) When assembling the entire lamp, pay attention to testing the torque of the lamp body to ensure that it will not fall off after installation. Many lamp holder suppliers use metal that is too soft to make the lamp holders, causing them to become deformed and easily damaged after installation.

(5) The metal shell has insufficient creepage distance. The general bulb body is made of plastic-coated aluminum, and the interior is wrapped with aluminum and contacts the aluminum substrate through buckles. If the distance between the buckles is too short, it is easy to have insufficient pressure resistance.

Secondly, let’s explain the CB certification of street lights.

(IEC62778 is mainly aimed at blue light testing, and 62696 is mainly aimed at IK testing)

We should pay attention to the following issues when applying:

(1) Effective grounding continuity and corrosion protection. The lamp body cannot be built-in.

(2) Drive grounding (Dob, linear and other solutions can be directly grounded separately.)

(3) Class II street lamps using aluminum substrate LED modules are preferably driven by SELV

(4) As long as the aluminum substrate meets basic insulation

(5) The driving voltage and Ta should match the entire lamp, and the driven Ta should be larger than the Ta of the entire lamp.

(For example, if the driving voltage is 127V, it should also be reflected as 127V on the label; (2) The Ta of the driver must be greater than the Ta of the whole lamp, because the heat dissipation built into the driver is not as good as that of the whole lamp)

(6) Exposed components such as sensors and plastic sealing covers need to be considered during IK testing. (This is very important. Generally, customers pay attention to the IK of the glass, but if there are sensors and sealing covers, the exposed ones shall prevail.)

Finally, we would like to emphasize that the CB certificate has no validity period. Most countries require the latest standard CB.

The Alite team has sufficient experience in CB certification. It has CB certification for outdoor street lights, garden lights, etc. We have provided engineering solutions to customers in many countries. It received a lot of praise.
